About

Welcome to the Lady Manners School website which is designed to give a feel for life at our school and is also a source of information about the many activities that we offer. We update the site regularly and hope that it is relevant and easy to use. If you have any ideas for additions or improvements please do let us know.

Lady Manners School is forward looking and we are also proud of our history.  The school was founded in 1636 by Grace, Lady Manners. Since then it has moved sites and has occupied its current position since 1936, overlooking Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District. Today we have 1360 students studying the widest range of subjects that we have ever had.

The Lady Manners insignia includes the phrase “Pour Y Parvenir” – “Strive to Attain”.   We encourage everyone at Lady Manners School to live by this maxim, striving to attain the highest standards in our work, having respect for others and developing our individual talents.  Academically, students make very good progress and our teaching is highly regarded. We are proud of our examination results, which have been impressive for many years.

Lady Manners School offers much more than this. Through a very wide variety of clubs, teams, societies, trips and visits, we give our students opportunities to extend understanding about the world and the wider community as well as to help the development of their confidence and skills. Providing support to our students through pastoral care is very important to us and has led to Ofsted commenting that “relationships are strong throughout the school, and it is a strikingly harmonious community”.

We are proud of our school and hope our website gives you an understanding of the busy and fulfilling life that is available here.
