Year 9 students and their parents/carers are now thinking about what subjects they will study in Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11). These are important choices and there is a range of information available to help.
We are currently seeking the following to join our team at Lady Manners School:
We have established remote learning systems to enable students to continue their learning every day at home, should this be required.
An established part of the school calendar, the Christmas service of Nine Lessons and Carols normally takes place in Bakewell Parish Church. This year, however, we have brought the service online so that we may still enjoy this traditional event.
In light of current restrictions, we are introducing an online system (SchoolCloud) to enable parents/carers and their child's teachers to meet via a virtual parents’ evening system.
During October, we have been celebrating Black History Month and the subjects are focussing on black culture within their lessons. Members of staff have produced assembly videos, with special guests talking about their life experiences and challenges.

The information is in a question and answer format and we hope that this will provide you with a clearer picture of how the school will operate from September. We will be writing to you again later in the summer as further details are finalised. Within that communication, there will be information of how to contact the school should you have any questions or require further clarification. There are more than 230 Year 6 students looking forward to joining Lady Manners School in September – and we are really looking forward to meeting them!
We were delighted to welcome our new Year 12 students to Lady Manners School on Monday 6 July, from the comfort of their own homes, in an online induction event.
Our Ofsted report has now been published following a full inspection of Lady Manners School on 10 and 11 March. We are delighted that Lady Manners School is judged to be a Good School, with ‘Personal Development’ being graded as outstanding.
The majority of our students travel to and from school by bus and so we wanted to ensure that parents and carers are aware of the following information regarding bus travel.
Update:
As you are probably aware, Shutts Lane is very busy at the beginning and end of the school day. With over 1,300 students arriving or leaving the site at the same time, safety is our prime concern.
The premises team, and others, have been very busy over the summer with dozens of projects, big and small, which all improve the environment for our students, staff and visitors.
It is with a sense of privilege and excitement that I take up the position of Headteacher at Lady Manners School from Duncan Meikle. I am sure that I echo the views of the whole school community in expressing our gratitude to Mr Meikle for all his hard work and in wishing him a well-earned and enjoyable retirement.
This week sees the visible start of a project by Lady Manners School to make more effective use of its beautiful site, to improve the sports facilities for its students and the wider community.

Lady Manners School has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
Lady Manners School has been awarded the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark by the British Dyslexia Association.
The General Data Protection Regulation takes effect from Friday 25 May.
Emily Porter, a student at Lady Manners School, has received a national accolade for achieving the highest mark in the country in GCSE Geography.
Sporting achievement and spirit were celebrated by students, parents and staff at the biennial Lady Manners School Sports Awards on Thursday 26 April.
Rebecca Marrow, Lady Manners School student, has stormed through a national biology competition to be chosen to represent the UK in the international competition in Iran in the summer.
A decision last Friday, by the Peak District National Park Authority, to approve plans for 30 new affordable homes to be built, is one of the final steps in our journey to improve the sports facilities that we offer our students, and within the wider community.

Lady Manners School Sixth Former, Isobella Cottrell, has beaten off a very high level of competition to win the Sports Volunteer of the Year award in the Derby Telegraph Sports Awards.
The election for the four Parent Governor vacancies took place on 1 November. As a result Mrs Emma Goldsack, Mrs Laura McNulty, Mr Keith Shivers and Dr Chasca Twyman have been elected to the Board of Governors.
It's not just new students who have been welcomed to Lady Manners School this term. New heads of Maths, English and Languages are bringing with them a fresh perspective to the school.
GCSE results this year show that Year 11 students have performed well at Lady Manners School in Bakewell. In the core subjects where there is a new grading system this year 85% of students gained at least a ‘4’ in Maths (nearest equivalent to Grade C) and 80% gained at least a ‘4’ in at least one of their English GCSEs.
Lady Manners School Sixth Form students have, once again, added to the school’s consistently strong record of A Level success.
The weather favoured us on Sports Day, held yesterday, Tuesday 20 June. Conditions were ideal for a wonderful day of sport, which saw Glossop lift the house trophy with a lead over Barker of just 1 ½ points!
Lady Manners School Catering Team has, once again, been awarded the top Food Hygiene Rating of five by the Food Standards Agency.
In light of recent communications about school funding – both at a national level and about our school in particular - the Lady Manners School Parents’ Association hosted a discussion on this topic at their meeting on Tuesday 4 April. We are delighted that a wide range of parents attended and a variety of views existed about the best way to move forward.
Second hand Lady Manners School uniform is now available from the Cancer Research UK Charity Shop, 6 Matlock Street, Bakewell (near the Rutland Arms Hotel).
Lady Manners School is delighted to be one of only 11 schools in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to have been awarded National Citizen Service (NCS) Champion School status.

Over the past few years, we have been making changes to the way we communicate with parents in order to improve the effectiveness of our communications and to respond to the wishes of parents. Changes have included the redesign of our website; the introduction of text messages to inform of school closure; and termly ‘News and Information’ emails.
