Pupil Premium Information

Background

The Government provides funding for students who fit in the Pupil Premium categories of free school meals (including those who are no longer eligible for free school meals but have been eligible in the last 6 years), looked after students, those students adopted from care and children of service personnel. The purpose of this is to narrow the attainment gap between students where evidence shows that they underachieve in comparison to their peers.

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium Funding is spent as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual students.

Pupil Premium Strategy 2019-20

Lady Manners School strives to attain the highest standards and ensure inclusion and equal access for all learners.

Pupil Premium Funding is a means of addressing some of the issues associated with social disadvantage and, in particular, to help close any gap in attainment where this exists. The circumstances of students eligible for Pupil Premium vary significantly and students can face many different barriers to educational achievement.  For some there may be financial barriers to learning which are overcome by the school providing resources and work aids. For others there may be self-esteem and self-belief issues which can affect their motivation and achievement.

Financial support

To ensure all students feel fully equipped and have access to the same experiences.

Mentoring and well-being

To ensure all students have access to appropriate support so that they are emotionally equipped for learning.

Curricular support

To improve the curriculum offer and academic support to ensure any barriers to learning are removed and true potential can be reached.

Transition

To provide additional support for vulnerable students during identified periods of change.

Individual support

To deliver specific support as and when necessary, to enable each student to reach his or her full potential.

Impact of the expenditure on eligible and other students

In 2018-19, 25 Year 11 students were eligible for Pupil Premium:

Based on data from school data analysis tool, ‘SISRA’ on 18 October 2019:

  • The percentage of students eligible for Pupil Premium achieving a grade 4 or above in maths and English rose again to 56% in 2019 (up 2%). The percentage of students eligible for Pupil Premium achieving a grade 4 or above in English rose by 6% to 60%
  • The Attainment 8 figure is 47.15, which is above the England average of 46.6
  • The progress figures have also increased with Progress 8 going up by 0.3 from 2018 to -0.104
  • 12 of the 25 students had positive Progress 8 scores

Due to a focused approach on attendance, particularly with those students who have less than 90% attendance, there was a significant impact with the percentage of students eligible for pupil premium falling into this category decreasing from 10% to 7.5%. This compares very favourably to the national figure of 13.9%.

Attendance at parents' evening continues to be good due to the work being done in this area, the gap between the whole school figure has decreased again and is now 3%.
